吊人與奧丁 ／ Hanged Man and Odin

又病了。正畫著一幅畫，靈感來自塔羅牌中一張皇牌「吊人」。

Fell ill again.    For weeks, I have been working on a painting inspired by a Tarot trump card,  the Hanged Man.

紙牌中的人像很特別，既給倒吊起來，卻是一臉沉靜，沒半分痛苦。研究塔羅牌的人士指出，「吊人」有這些特質︰

Tarot deck depicts a man hanging upside-down.  He shows no sign of suffering but instead deep entrancement.    Experts in Tarot suggest the Hanged Man carries these meanings:

犧牲 ﹣﹣﹣ 捨棄

停滯 ﹣﹣﹣ 接納

新觀點 ﹣﹣﹣ 沉思

抑制 ﹣﹣﹣ 等待

Sacrifice --- Letting go

Suspension --- Acceptance

New point of View --- Contemplation

Non-action --- Waiting

「吊人」也讓人聯想到北歐神話中的奧丁。奧丁給倒掛在「世界之樹」上九日九夜，他是自願的，並尋得智慧。


要畫好這幅畫，我想，要給自己培養多點沉靜與智慧了……

The Hanged Man is also associated with Odin in Norse mythology.  Odin hung himself upside down from the world-tree for nine days and nights.  He finally attained wisdom.

To paint this well, I think I have to learn what is silence and wisdom.....
